Maggie has always had trouble getting shirts to fit her, they’re either too big on the shoulders or too tight on the bust (in fact she tells me that it’s not just shirts that she struggles with, most tops are difficult to find in the right fit). Recently she’s found the current roomier style shirts fit her pretty well, but because they are generally longer and less fitted she’s been struggling to know how to wear them – what to wear them with, how to dress them up and what to wear over them. So I pulled together a few looks for her using pieces she already had in her closet, and to her (and my) delight she loved all three!
A tailored jacket is definitely a wardrobe staple, it is one of those pieces that has the ability to elevate almost any outfit. Here we’ve paired it with the white shirt to give the button up a little more shape and to highlight Maggie’s neat waist.
Another great way to give a looser shirt some shape and structure is to layer a piece of knitwear over it. Maggie’s a huge fan of long knitwear, her favorite look is long knitwear worn over skinny jeans, so she was over the moon to see that she was able to change things up a little by adding this shirt into the mix.
Capes are such a versatile item, they’re so easy to throw over knitwear in the winter, but I think my favorite look is when they’re worn with a crisp white shirt. I realize it’s not possible to wear a coat over an outfit like this, but if you felt that you needed an extra layer, I’d recommend layering a leather jacket or Mac between the shirt and the cape!
