When I asked my followers what they struggled with the most when searching for swimwear, the majority of them mentioned wanting to find swimwear that would hide a tummy. So part 2 of my swimwear mini-series (you can view part one here) is for those of you who carry weight around your middle.
Swimwear is never forgiving, it’s tight and the fabric is thin with a slight sheen. Each of these qualities in isolation will highlight your lumps and bumps, so when all three are combined we have little chance of finding something flattering. But that said, if you know what to look for this fabric can work in your favor. But we don’t have to go it alone, things have moved on tremendously in control swimwear arena over the last couple of years and there are now some fantastic, on trend, un-mummsy options that are designed specifically to flatter and offer support.

SWIMWEAR THAT HIDES A TUMMY
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Draw the eye away from your middle – block color, print, and interesting necklines do this very well. Most of he options I’ve chosen below do this, but this one, this one and this one are particularly great!
Look for swimwear that has ruched or gathered fabric at the side like this, it always offers a little camouflage whether bikini bottoms or swimsuit.
Paneling is often flattering. This swimsuit has a mix of sheer and ruched paneling that wraps around the body drawing the eye up.
Search for swimwear that offers support. The choice is brilliant these days and unlike 5 or 6 years ago the suits don’t scream support. This one has a ton off support without looking mummsy.
Choose styles that have tie detailing around the waist like this. But please, don’t tie the band in the middle of your tummy, this will only serve to highlight your middle. Loosely knot the waist tie to the side.
Draw attention to your assets! If you have great legs, look for styles with a high leg that will elongate them further. If you have a good bust then choose plunging necklines that will highlight them. If you have a small waist wear a style that shows it off.
You don’t have to be restricted to bathing suits, there are plenty of bikinis that will flatter as well us support. High waisted styles will give you the most support so try these styles first.
THINGS TO AVOID
Skimpy swimsuits (like this) and bikinis (like this) and this that offer little to no support.
Avoid high shine fabrics (like this) that highlight ever lump and bump
Give novelty styles like this a miss…the detailing will only serve to highlight your tummy.
Styles like this that draw the eye to your tummy are best avoided.
MY TOP PICKS
ONE – this high waisted style with a bold print is great at disguising a tummy.
TWO – the black panel down the center of this suit does a fantastic job of camouflaging a tummy it also draws the eye in and narrows the middle.
THREE – this suit has it all, a tie waist that disguises a tummy, a pretty plunging, ruffled neckline that draws the eye up and away from the middle and some subtle ruching at the side of the suit.
FOUR – white highlights and black recedes so this monochrome color block swimsuit is a a fantastic choice. Add to that, the plunging neckline and the waist and we have one very flattering swimsuit!
FIVE – this suit ruches in all the right places and has a wide band that ties conveniently across the middle.
SIX – the carefully placed print and paneling in this suit will narrow your torso and the secret tummy control will offer support.
SEVEN – separates offer us a much better fit than swimsuits do but generally provide little coverage. If you want separates but also want coverage then opt for a tankini like this that has a gentle peplum strategically placed to hide a tummy.
EIGHT – wearing different colours or prints on your top and bottom is a great way to highlight one area and disguise another. This set has ruching down the sides of the bikini for extra flattering qualities.
NINE – paneling is a fantastic way to keep the eye moving and disguise a tummy. This one shouldered swimsuit has solid and sheer panels and secret support that creates a look that is sexy and flattering.
